Ireland
Louise, aka Weezie, and I just spent two weeks in Ireland with a tour group. Started in Dublin in Ireland and then circumnavigated the island, including Northern Ireland (as you probably are aware is a separate country), in a counterclockwise direction. Found out that despite the existence of two separate countries they coexist peacefully and with no obvious friction. We hope Brexit doesn’t change that for the worse.
Spectacular scenery. The coasts are rocky and display steep cliffs and unusual rock formations as a result of wind and water erosion. We had to shorten one view when unexpected rain took us by surprise. Actually, that was our bad as rain in Ireland should always be expected. More inland there were small mountains and unending vistas of green fields populated mainly by sheep but also cattle, all contentedly chewing grass whether in rain or sunshine.
A highlight was a demonstration of the dogs used to herd the sheep. They quiver with energy and anticipation while awaiting instruction. When activated they responded instantly to voice commands or a whistle and drove a couple of confused sheep around a large pasture. I have known few people as happy at their work as these dogs.
Hit a few pubs that are as friendly and busy as advertised, serving good food and cold beer. The restaurants were high quality. One was housed in several old railroad cars said to have been part of the Orient Express.
But the highlight was enjoying all this with my wife Weezie. She makes every experience a treat.
